I found myself drawn the work of Erberto Carboni and his work with Cervo Bantam hats. I can definitely see the influence of the cubist collage style in this poster. You can see the real contrast in the in the very flat looking photo of the girl and the hat that is on her head. That is what give you the cubist collage feel. The background is very flat but has some texture to it, which allows for the black and white color of the girl and the hat to pop off the page. This draws attention to the product.

I also chose a second design by Erberto Carboni that was not explicitly featured in the book. When I was reading I saw that they mentioned he designed some work for a pasta brand. When I looked up the image above this work came up as well. I absolutely could not, not talk about this design. To me it is just so simple and satisfying to look at yet so energetic that it draws the viewer in. The color choice is just so clean and simple and the darker blue shadows make it look like the pasta is exploding off of the page. I don't think that it is exactly like the advertisement above, but I feel like it shows an evolution of a designer.

I had issues siting this piece because the only website that I could find it on that wasn't just selling it as a print was in Italian.
For my last photo I chose the to look at Peter Knapps work. He does really interesting work collaging pictures and type and I chose this design to show case a good representation of that. I enjoy that he also shaped the text and collage like a face and used the partial profile of a women to make it look like a face on another level. He does very interesting work and I will definite be looking into his work more in the future.

I really enjoy collaged art and design because to me it adds so much more interest and dimension to a piece of art. I also think it is another way to express creativity with images, figures, items etc. that maybe never would have ever thought to be seen together but now are.
ReplyDeleteI also really enjoy the second image because of the colors and the way that the imagery pops off the page. It is super simplistic but still so engaging at the same time, which can be hard to accomplish sometimes as designers.
