In Class Blog
I have been to Japan multiple times and I have seen ukiyo-e art in museums as it's their own section in one part. Mainly it's about a woman's beauty as it shows the high aesthetic scenes. This interests me more to learn about it. I didn't know the history behind the art, only seen it knowing little to nothing about it but it came from the Endo Period and that it's for the merchant class.
What I didn't know was that it was to paint woman in a lesser light than man. How they were to wear shoes, which are called geta, to basically be held hostage in their homes. How they're very beauty is glamorized, that is what caught my attention.
